Interview with Author Livy Jarmusch!

Hello, everyone! Today I have a very special blog for all of you! I had the privilege of being able to interview Livy Jarmusch! She is the author of The Coronation, The Rebellion, and she also wrote some of the entries for Beauty, Boys, and Ballgowns ( written by a quite a few authors together )! She is also the author of a few other books, and is the founder of Crown of Beauty, which is a mobile site and magazine for young Christian girls! Crown of Beauty Website Link

About the Author:

I’m a twenty-something author, singer, and songwriter. I enjoy crafting YA fiction that is pure, lovely, inspirational, and of course, entertaining! When I’m not writing, you can usually find me playing guitar, blogging, drinking peppermint tea, connecting with new friends, planning my next trip to Disney, or pinning images of Europe and Golden Retriever Puppies.

 THE INTERVIEW:

Red:  Hey, Livy! Thank you so much for letting me interview you! You’re book Beauty, Boys, and Ballgowns has really made an impact on my life! Ok, so my first question is, when did you realize that you wanted to make writing a career? Was it a desire you had from the beginning or something you grew into?

Livy: Aw, that's so awesome to hear, Lyla! Thanks so much for having me on your blog! Well, I've always loved writing and storytelling, but it really hasn't been until the last few years that I realized writing was something God really wanted me to focus on. I've always battled a lot of doubt when it comes to writing, so I really had to step out in faith and believe that someone actually might benefit from and enjoy what I have to say. I've always had a desire to write, ever since I was a little girl, but it wasn't until after High School that I really started focusing on it.

Red: Wow! We both struggle with the same thing, doubt! Right now I'm trying to learn how to step out in faith with my writing!  What inspired you to start Crown of Beauty? How long did it take to start?

Livy: Growing up, I loved reading American Girl Magazine, and it was one of my many (many) dreams to someday start a magazine of my own! As a teen, I got fed up with the deception and lies teen magazine were trying to feed me and my friends. I'd seen several friends struggle with eating disorders and battle massive insecurities, and it really broke my heart. I came to the Lord and asked what I could possibly do to help them, and He really gave me His heart for other girls struggling with those kinds of things. The more time I spent in God's Word, the more on fire I became to step out and make a difference, and so, when I graduated High School, I launched the magazine! It started out as just a blog, and it took a full year to create a solid readership, before it grew into a team of writers and we made our first digital issue. We were able to do some print issues as well, which was SUPER exciting.

Red: I totally agree with you on the whole magazine thing! It's crazy how most magazines make many people believe so many of those terrible lies! I'm really thankful that there are women like you who step out and show that we don't have to believe in the lies of the media and the world! How does it make you feel that your books are impacting girls from all around?

Livy: It's so humbling. I know God wants to use all of our gifts, if we're willing, but He still never ceases to amaze me as to what He can do when we give Him our best! I always think about the boy with the fish and the loaves. Even though the multitudes were starving, he didn't feel like what he had could possibly make an impact...but Jesus took it, blessed it, and used what that little boy had, to feed the masses. It's amazing that He desires to do that with each of us, as well. <3

Red: Soooo true, Livy! It's crazy, I never thought about that Bible story that way! What a great comparison!  Are there any tips or encouragement you’d like to give to young teen writers?

Livy: Yes! If I could only say one thing, it would be... NEVER STOP WRITING! There are days you're going to feel discouraged. Days you want to give up. Days you wonder if anything you're doing at all could ever make a difference...but don't stop. It will. Your words have purpose. Just keep writing, and practicing, and sharing with those God places in your path. He will bless what you're doing, and you'll get better and better over time.

Red: That really inspires me, Livy! All of that is so correct! Just because I'm curious, what’s your life verse?

Livy: I actually have a few life verses! But one of them is Romans 12:1-2 which says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, His good, pleasing, and perfect will." It can be so tempting to conform to the ways of our culture, but God has called us to be His holy, set apart daughters. Living differently can be uncomfortable at times, but we have to be confident and believe that God is using it to challenge, and inspire others. Romans 12:1-2 is one of my life verses, because I know that I'm called to be transformed by His Word, every single day!

Red: Ahh! That life verse is SO awesome!! What you said was so true about us being set apart daughters of the King! Sometimes it is uncomfortable, but God is using us for His glory! To conclude this interview, would you please name a few things readers might now know about you?

Livy: Hmm...I'm slightly obsessed with Disney World and I would totally live there if I could. I have a very passionate heart for Africa and can't wait for God to someday open doors to go and minister there. I have such a strong desire to travel and have friends in EVERY country in Europe. Annndddd, I'd love to have a huge family someday. :)

Red: Same on most all of those things!! I would SOOO love to travel and have a huge family too! And Disney.... UHH! I LOVE DISNEY! Haha! <33
